Best Fencing Options for Dog Owners
For dog owners, fences aren’t only a convenient way to add privacy and boost a home’s curb appeal. A fenced yard provides the freedom to safely let our four-legged friends get some exercise and fresh air! If your family is seeking a new fence for Fido, read on for our top three fences.
Best for your all-around good dogs: chain link
This maintenance-free fence style offers visibility and security, which is perfect for keeping dogs enclosed in the yard. Our chain link fences can be ordered in a variety of custom options (such as privacy slats, polyvinyl coating, and fabric height) and in heights from three to six feet. The black color option is a great choice when you don’t want to block views or close in an otherwise open space. View our chain link fencing gallery!
For dogs that are climbers: A chain link fence with slats can make a huge difference for those dogs that think going up and over the fence is a good plan. Slats provide a smooth surface without grip which can be a good deterrent for dogs and potential intruders alike.
Best for dogs that dig: cedar fencing
Cedar is a classic and popular fence material for good reason. This dense wood has unique properties that make it ideal for use in the rainy Pacific Northwest. Cedar naturally resists rot (and insect infestations!) so wet weather is no problem. Using a pressure treated “runner” or “kicker” board at the bottom of a cedar fence is a useful addition for any doggos that are inclined to dig. This addition, which can be added to most fence styles, is trenched several inches into the ground so gaps are eliminated. Our cedar fences can be constructed in a variety of styles, including good neighbor, picture frame, and more. View our cedar fencing options and galleries.
Best for big dogs: Sherwood or Allegheny
For large and in-charge dogs, our simulated fences are the best choice. Sherwood and Allegheny fences are made from recycled and recyclable polyethylene plastic. Similar to vinyl but much stronger, these models can withstand hurricane-force wind gusts up to 130 mph. It’s safe to say that they can also withstand big dogs, especially since these options can be ordered in heights of four, six, or eight feet. Retaining boards can also be added to the bottom of these models for extra protection from digging. These simulated fences are extremely low-maintenance, as they have an easy-to-clean finish that resists paint and graffiti. And since they can look like natural cedar or rock walls, you’ll get the beauty of natural materials with the durability of engineered materials. View our simulated fencing gallery.
